Hosting an Engagement Party - 101 |
Have you just found yourself in charge of hosting an engagement
party but are not quite sure how to go about it? Well, whether
it is for a family member or close friends, there are a few
simple steps you will need to follow. By starting with these
basics, you are on your way to throwing an unforgettable
engagement party for the happy couple.
Checklist to
Success!
First, you are going to want to meet with the couple so that
you can find out what type of engagement party they would like.
Do they want to celebrate with all of their family and friends
or are they looking for a more intimate gathering? Once you get
a feel for what they want, that is when the planning
begins.
Plan - Plan -
Plan
To ensure that you stay organized it will be imperative to
create a planning list. This list needs to cover all the
details; the date, location, theme, food, decorations,
engagement party invitations and anything else that might
pertain to your particular couple and their engagement party.
Not only will having this information at hand help you organize
the perfect party, it also allows you to have a way of checking
off each detail as you take care of it. I recommend a small
binder or journal. You will definitely need more than one sheet
of paper.
The Guest
List
Next, the other list that is equally important is the guest
list. Getting a guest list right away, allows you to send out
the engagement party invitations and collect the R.S.V.P.’s.
This will help you determine the number of guests that will be
attending your party. In addition, the guest list helps you
determine many of the other items on your master list. Once you
hear back from your guests, you can better determine your
theme, size of your location, amount of food needed,
etc.
Engagement Party
Invitations
Because you are hosting the engagement party you will be
sending out the invitations yourself. There are a wide variety
of engagement party invitations to choose from. They range from
very formal and traditional, even custom made, to ones that you
can purchase at a store or even do from your home computer. The
point is they don’t have to cost a fortune to be nice. The
thing to remember is that if you are doing them at home; make
sure you are willing to put in the extra effort. It might be a
little more work, but the results of a well made invitation are
worth it.
It’s all in the
Details
Once you have made your choice, the key to sending out your
engagement party invitation is getting the details right. This
includes the right date, time and location. Double check your
guest information and make sure that names and addresses are
correct. If Aunt Agnes has recently remarried, you don’t want
to offend her or her new spouse by using the name of her first
husband. Also, if you make even the smallest mistake on the
address, you might not reach everyone on the couples list.
After you have double checked your engagement party invitations
and you are satisfied that all the information is correct don’t
forget to include R.S.V.P. information. This can be your phone
number or an e-mail address. In fact, it wouldn’t hurt to
include both so that guests can choose the most convenient way
for them.
If you follow these beginning basic guidelines, you are on your
way to throwing a very special engagement party that the couple
will never forget.
