Selecting the Perfect Engagement Ring |
Selecting an engagement ring might seem like the scariest part
of the whole engagement process. Let’s face it, the fact that
this is the most important ring you’re ever going to pick out,
can be a huge weight on your shoulders. Keeping a few simple
tips in mind when shopping for that engagement ring can relieve
much of the stress you might be feeling.
There are a few things you must consider before you can choose
the perfect engagement ring. First you have to decide on your
budget. Jewelers suggest that you pick out a ring that equals
two or three months of your salary. Of course you can spend
more if you choose to. Just remember that this ring needs to be
something that you can both be proud of.
Start the Selection
Process
When it is time to choose, try and figure out what types of
rings she likes. You can do this easily enough just by looking
at what she is wearing or by taking a peek in her jewelry box
when she isn’t around. Does she have a lot of yellow gold or
white gold? Does she like those big bold pieces that stand out
and command attention, or is her jewelry simple yet elegant?
Not only will sneaking a peak at what she already has give you
a better idea of what she likes but it will also help to keep
with that element of surprise.
Diamonds - Yes or
No?
The first question you need to ask yourself is: Am I going with
a traditional diamond engagement ring? Most generally your
answer will be yes. However, there will be some instances when
your fiancé-to-be would prefer an engagement ring that is made
out of some other type of gem. Pink sapphires or emeralds are
among some of the non-traditional engagement rings that are
becoming increasingly popular. This is where you are going to
have to rely on what you know about your soul mate and trust
your instincts.
What kind of
Setting?
Once you have figured out what type of stone you will go with,
you will need to decide on a type of setting. There are several
settings to choose from; however, right now the prong setting
is one of the most popular designs for engagement rings. This
setting is great if you are thinking of a solitaire diamond
engagement ring. Because the prongs are usually small more of
the stone is visible. You just have to remember that this type
of setting is prone to snag clothing which might be a drawback.
The princess cut engagement ring is also a popular setting.
This setting is known to really showcase the diamond as well as
bring out its brilliance and fire. The cushion cut and emerald
cut are also in style right now, as is the three stone setting
that represents your past, present and future.
Take your Time and Shop
Around
As you can see, the most important thing that goes into
choosing the engagement ring is a lot of thoughtful
consideration. Don’t be afraid to pick out a few and then think
about each one for a day or two, until you are sure you are
getting the right one. There is a lot riding on this decision
so it is essential that you take it seriously. Remember, the
right engagement ring should take her breath away and then once
she regains her composure, make her say yes.
